Bartonella quintana in Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis)
We identified a Bartonella quintana strain by polymerase chain reaction amplification, cloning, and sequencing of DNA extracted from lysed erythrocytes and cultured colonies grown from peripheral blood collected from a captive-bred cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis). This report describes naturally acquired B. quintana infection in a nonhuman primate.

concurrent infection with Torulopsis glabrata in a dog. Predisposing factors included a history of chronic skin disease of obscure origin treated with antibiotics and/or corticosteroids for 6 months. Laboratory findings, sebaceous gland atrophy, epidermal atrophy, and epidermal hyperkeratosis were all findings that were consistent with those of corticosteroid effects. The immune status of this ...
متن کاملPorencephaly in a Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca Fascicularis)
Porencephaly was observed in a female cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) aged 5 years and 7 months. The cerebral hemisphere exhibited diffuse brownish excavation with partial defects of the full thickness of the hemispheric wall, and it constituted open channels between the lateral ventricular system and arachnoid space. In addition, the bilateral occipital lobe was slightly atrophied. His...
متن کاملColonic Volvulus in a Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis)
A five-year-old male cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) with loose stool from two days before dying was observed with dark blood-like watery diarrhea. The animal was not used in the toxicology study as its body weight (4.5 kg) was lower than that of male monkeys of the same age. Gross examination revealed a clockwise rotation of the colon accompanied by a dark-reddish change and distention...
متن کاملMixed Thymoma in a Young Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis)
A mass with a diameter of 1.5 cm was found in the thymus of a 4-year and 3-month-old male cynomolgus monkey. Microscopically, the mass consisted of two different patterns of proliferation, dense or fascicular proliferation of elongated spindle cells in a sporadic storiform pattern and dense proliferation of thymic cortex-like lymphoid cells in which the multifocal pale nests resembling the thym...
